Her art provides a vital means to express her rich and colourful life. After completing a BA/BSc and a teaching diploma in the early 80's, Lindy undertook a fine art diploma at the Cape Technicon Art School in Cape Town, South Africa, majoring in printmaking.
She describes art and the creative process as her unbridled passion. A move to Harare in 1986 led her into teaching art, first to primary and secondary students and then to adults. Over the next 15 years she painted, exhibited and taught extensively across Zimbabwe and her penultimate commission was to paint one of the most spectacular and largest specialist artworks in Zimbabwe, the breathtaking ceiling domes displayed at the Kingdom Hotel and Casino in Victoria Falls. kingdom hotel As the political and social unrest grew in her country, she sought sponsorship into Australia, eventually gaining a teaching post in 2003.
Over the next three and a half years she studied textiles at Tafe and began to paint prolifically again as a means of dealing with the pain of separation from family, friends and familiar places. She also found her new setting inspired her , taking her work in new and exciting directions. Currently Lindy displays her art in selected galleries, venues and at her home gallery.
About Lindy's Art
Having a intense sense of design and pattern, Lindy reflects this both in her paintings and her textile creations. While clearly grounded in the symbolism and bright colours of Klimt and Hundertwasser, her works are tempered by the organic flow of the Fauves and Art Nouvea and the stylistic emotional intensity of abstract expressionism. in love Lindy particularly enjoys portrait commissions as they allow her to indulge her fascination with people. portrait She also greatly enjoys her involvement in art workshops, which afford her the luxury of passing on her extensive experience and knowledge of a variety of media in an intimate and rewarding setting.
